Baptism Care Ministry
Each child baptized at emc is given a small crocheted cross, lovingly made by a team of ladies in the congregation. In addition, the Baptism Care Ministry involves following up with parents of baptised children, with a letter from emc shortly after their baptism. Thereafter the children will receive a birthday card on their first and second birthdays, and a birthday card on their sixth birthday, with an invitation to attend God’s Tank.

Bereavement Group
We run a bereavement group for people who have lost loved ones and need to speak to someone about ways of dealing with the loss. We do home visits and have a small group, which meets once a month to share and speak to others in similar situations. If you need or know of someone who needs a visit from us or would like to attend our group meetings, please feel free to contact:

CARE
Through envelopes put in the church bulletin every month, members of EMCdonate money for a CARE fund, administered by a CARE committee and designed to assist congregation members in times of financial need or crisis.
Congregation members who find themselves in financial crisis can approach emc’s ministers, who in turn will send out members of the CARE committee to meet with the person and decide whether aid can be given. The CARE committee is also available to offer financial advice to members of our congregation.
Flower Ministry
The flower arrangements placed in the church on a Sunday morning are the work of a team of volunteers, who although not professionals, love decorating the church with flowers to God’s glory. Arrangements are usually prepared on a Friday or Saturday. More volunteers are always welcome.

Flower Distribution Ministry
On Monday mornings, a team of ladies works in pairs to dismantle the flower arrangements in the Church and assemble them into bunches, which are delivered to folk who have recently been bereaved, have been ill, are celebrating a special birthday or anniversary, or just need to know that emc is thinking of them. Join our team to discover how fulfilling this Ministry can be!

Funeral Tea Ladies
This is a team of ladies who serve our community pastorally by the simple act of serving tea at funerals conducted at emc. To join this team please contact Rosemaree Glenn on 011 609 7028.
Frozen Meal Ministry
We can all do with some TLC now and then. When the EMC Ladies’ Breakfasts were started during the last quarter of 2006 the ladies agreed with kindness and enthusiasm to form the Tenderly and Lovingly Cooked Meals Ministry. These meals are really appreciated by families where the mother is temporarily unable to cook, to welcome emc members moving into the area, or bereaved folk. We appeal to anyone who would like to participate in this worthy ministry and cook a meal or two. For further information kindly contact Louise Stewart on 011 663 0000.
The Love Basket Ministry
The Love Basket Ministry makes up and distributes ‘love baskets’ to those in need of love, encouragement or upliftment. Each basket is filled with small gifts, to which a Bible verse is attached. We rely on donations or cash to provide the contents of the baskets.
For more information, please contact Marlene Mitchley on 082 649 1793, or Eileen Gollop on 011 609 2956, or join us on the first Saturday of every month in the Dick Mortimer Hall from 10h00 to 11h00.
Pastoral Visitation
This includes: Visiting the sick, both in hospital or during convalescence at home; visiting folk confined to their homes, usually the elderly who are unable to get out as a result of frailty or lack of transport; visiting those with special needs, giving encouragement and support during difficult times.
Materials which are useful: Bulletins from the last Sunday are good to leave with people in hospital; magazines, such as Guidelines and Faith for Daily Living.
If you would like to join this very rewarding ministry, please contact June Robertson on 011 452 1135.
The Prayer Ministry
“Formal” prayer happens at emc in many ways, including:
Prayer requests in the weekly bulletin/notices, the Prayer Chain and a Tuesday evening intercessory Prayer Group that focuses its prayer specifically on the needs and ministry of EMC.
The Prayer Chain Ministry consists of about twenty members, who pray for the needs of others, whether they are members of emc or not. Requests are passed on telephonically, as well as via email. Prayer is usually maintained for two weeks, unless there is a need for longer-term prayer. To place a person on the Prayer Chain, please obtain the person’s permission before contacting the Church Office. To become a member of the Prayer Chain, please contact the Office and advise whether you would prefer to join the email or telephonic chain.
Retiring Collection (“Poor Fund”)
On Communion Sundays, the EMC congregation contributes toward a “Retiring Collection” which is used at the minister’s discretion to assist those from the streets who are in crisis or are in need of once-off help.
Thought For Food
Through the generosity of our congregation the Thought for Food team has been able to supply an average of 13 parcels monthly to persons (often families with young children) struggling for basic food items. The needs of persons in such situations are brought to our attention through our ministers and office staff members, with additional calls through the CPF and others involved in the community. Food donations can be brought to church services on a Sunday, or to the church office. Contact Val Irons on 011 452 3846.
We also sort used clothing and distribute it to various charities or needy people. This includes items made by a group of ladies who knit and sew donated material and wool.
